POMPANO BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) – A shooting occurred in a Pompano Beach neighborhood that involved one deputy being shot on the job.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a shooting on Briny Ave in Pompano Beach around 11 p.m., Tuesday.
At least one suspect was involved in the incident as well.
It remains unclear how officers came into contact with the suspect, but they were forced to open fire.
A BSO deputy can be heard on dispatch audio.
“Shots fired, shots fired,” he yelled before giving the dispatcher their location. “He’s on the beach! North along the beach! It looks like he’s armed. Four shots fired. Everybody be cautious.”
That same officer would later say that the firearm was secured.
“Deputy Gasket is being transported,” said the deputy to a dispatcher.
“He’s going as a patient along with Alpha One,” replied the dispatcher.
It is unclear if authorities arrested anyone or if anyone was injured.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is on the scene as they assist with the investigation.
